Recording Setup

Viewers are excluded from screen capture at the window level. Set up your displays so the script is always in view and never in the recording.

Viewer windows are invisible to screen recordings and screen shares. This happens at the macOS window level, so it works with any capture tool: QuickTime, OBS, ScreenFlow, Zoom or Meet screen sharing, all of them. You see the script on your display; the capture sees what is behind it.

Only viewers are excluded. The editor window is a normal window and shows up in recordings like any other app, so keep it on a display you are not capturing, or close it once the script is final.

Capture exclusion applies to screen capture. A physical camera pointed at your monitor still sees the screen, glass and all.

Typical setups

Talking head, two displays. Put a full-size viewer on the display closest to your camera and crank the font. Your eyeline stays near the lens, and the recording of your main display stays clean.

Screen recording a tutorial. Keep a narrow viewer strip on the same display you are recording, pinned, click-through on, opacity around 80%. You read the script exactly where the action is; the recording never shows it.

One display only. Same as above: pin a strip over your work with click-through on. The script floats over the recorded app while every click lands underneath it.

Before you hit record

Do a five-second test capture and confirm the viewers are absent. It is the kind of thing you want to learn before the take, not after. While you are at it, scroll to the top of the script in any window; every other window follows.
